When you travel to Mexico by car, you need to buy a Mexican temporary car insurance policy. Even though in Mexico third party liability insurance is not obligatory, it is essential to have it in the event that you get involved in even the most minor accident, be it a fender bender of another vehicle, damaging private or government property, or injuring a person, these last two, if you don’t have liability coverage are a cause for jail. Remember that Mexican legal procedure is different from what is applicable in the USA, both in Mexico and the USA you are innocent until proven guilty, but in Mexico, this process could be time consuming and very complicated.

Since Chuck Yoak was laid off in March from his job of 22 years, the former Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant worker has been able to take advantage of a federal subsidy that has paid most of his health insurance costs.
Starting this month, he is among thousands throughout the country slated to lose that federal subsidy unless Congress acts on two bills that have been introduced to extend the program.
Yoak said the federal program has been helpful during this period when he has not been able to find other employment. He said his COBRA payment without the subsidy is more than $300 a month.
“(The federal subsidy) helps a lot, because that is much less money,” Yoak said.
The subsidy was part of the federal stimulus act passed in February.
Under the law, people who are laid off between Sept. 30, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2009, are eligible for the subsidy to stay in their former employer’s group health plan under the federal law known as COBRA.
